Cancelled on the ski trip as -30C in Banff so went for a hike in Sheep area. 4 ish hour RT with Dave and Wietse.

Minus 20 C at park lot but was sunny and – 5C by time we hit the ridge so felt like we stole a day weather wise.

Prairie Mountain, Elbow Valley, Kananaskis Nov 8, 2014

Summit Prairie Mountain, hike, Elbow Valley, Bragg Creek, Kananaskis

 

Last sunny warm plus 14 day.  Start just past the Winter Gate after the Elbow Falls park lot.

About 7.6 km RT and 726 m elevation gain. Totally a hike.

Exercise run up Prairie Mountain with Blaine H. and Kevin K.

Up in 1 hr 40 min Down in about 45min.  Used to be able to get up in under an hour.

Prairie Mountain has turned into the Grouse Grind exercise mountain – dozens of people per day.

Ran into Sonny Bou and Bob and Dinah.

Rainy cloudy day so objective changed several times in  the morning. so Kent with no beta – cliffed out on a side ridge. probably could have down climbed it but looked wet and muddy.

No-seeum Aug 23 and Sept 1

Aug 23 – Good hike but turned back at lake by scare with an eye problem.  No big deal but was good to be sure.

Sept 1 – Successful trip. Nice scramble and now there is a reasonable trail up gully. clouds all the way to top but opened up for some views.
