Thanks Mike - good to know.
The bolts may not be necessary but can't understand why people feel the need to take the hangers. We just didn't use them.
Why make it less safe for the less experienced?
Seems rather elitist which is ironic for someone who is only climbing a 5.5 route.

Hi,
Did this route today and was looking for the details on the web.
Just to let anyone know that if you're doing this route with an inexperience person who may want a belay someone has unscrewed ALL of the bolts. There are shiney threads left behind so I imagine this was done recently, so bring along some long slings to belay of the numerous large blocks up there.

Nice video Vic! Good editing and musical overlay.
Looks like great snow conditions at that point.

That accident was sad given the conditions, route selection and lack of beacons.
Thanks for the feedback on the Sunshine to Healy trip. We looked north at the area for the summer trail which looked easy and I expect lots of people do it that way. The slopes to the South side of our track looked angled enough to actually get some turns so I was wondering if anyone had done that(of course depending on avy conditions) and what the cliff looks like to get down to Simpson pass.

Nice pics Bill, have always done this trip from Sunshine, and I think usually closer to the summer trail.
Vic
Made this short video of Burstall Pass, weekend before the accident.

Great Pics! Any chance you could send me you GPS data on the trip? I am heading there on Saturday and thought I could download it just in case. Thanks for posting your trips.

This was a very very nice day on one of the best scrambles in the area. Very easy to the main summit. The lower sub peak was far more interesting, some exposure on moderate ground but lots of opportunity for both easier and harder lines.
I would almost recomend to descend the up rout or better yet grab mt allen too and decsend the ski hill for a longer but more entertaining loop.
Also keep in mind the staff at Nakiska were very accomidating letting us use both the washrooms at the start and for a free ride down the ski out road on descent.
All in all it was a GREAT DAY. Thx guys.

I think that this trip to Mt Niles was easily one of the most scenic trips I have even undertaken. Its a long ways in but well worth it just for the hike.
Great bivy spots on the bench above (climbers right) Niles Meadows.
