If I was doing it again I probably would go up the lookout trail and along the ridge and then stay low around to the upper col. see route 1 photo. (I should do my research before the hike because that is what Sonny did)

Some people went to top of this and then downclimbed carefully to col. They said it was very loose and unecessary.

Scree run down from upper col NW into aylmer pass. Fast exit down to trail but puts you 2 km further from bikes.

route1 - looks like shortest and easiest route from ridge to upper col - despite sidehill scree. We went too high and wasted time/backtracked in the rock and loose ledges which contributed to a 12.5 hour RT in the heat. Shortest down would be retrace to
